Spaghetti Squash Recipes and Cooking Instructions

When cooked, a fork can easily poke through the skin, and the flesh will easily separate into long strands with a fork. The average 4 pound squash will give you about five cups of flesh. Use the "spaghetti" right away, or place in freezer bags in the freezer for use at another meal.
These best five ways to cook spaghetti squash are in the order of cooking time.If you have all day, set the crock pot on, or if you like that fresh baked smell to fill the house, bake it in the oven. If you just want to get it done and start eating as fast as you can, I would suggest the microwave. Try out all the different ways and see what you like best!
#1 - In the Crock Pot - Pick a squash that can fit in your crock pot whole. Pole holes through the shell with a fork, and place in the crock pot. Add a couple of cups of water, and cook on low for 8-9 hours or until fork pokes through skin easily.
#2 - In the Oven, Whole - Poke holes in the skin several times with a fork. Place the entire squash in the oven. Cook at 375F for about 1 hour, or until soft.
#3 - Boil in a Pot - Find a pot big enough to hold your squash. Fill with enough water to cover the whole squash and set to boil. When the water is boiling, add the squash and cook 20-30 minutes until fork pokes through skin easily.
#4 - In the Oven, Halved - Cut the squash in half lengthwise, and scoop out the seeds. Place open sides down onto a baking sheet and place in the oven. Cook at 375F for 20-30 minutes or until skin is easily poked with a fork.
#5 - Microwave in a Dish - Cut the squash in half lengthwise, and scoop out the seeds. Place squash in a microwaveable dish with the open side up. Add a few cups of water, and cover with saran wrap. Cook for 10-12 minutes. Let it sit for 5 minutes covered, then test to see if it is done, and cook longer if needed.
I found that slicing the squash in half and scooping out the seeds first, before it was cooked was easier then scooping out the seeds after, and trying to sort out the flesh from the seeds when cooked together.

Here are some good spaghetti squash recipes to use cooked squash.

Advantages and Disadvantages of a Microwave Oven

The microwave oven has given a new impetus to the culinary activities in the modern kitchen. This utility has become an unavoidable kitchen appliance. In a hectic lifestyle, a microwave oven is a word synonymous with convenience.

In the early stages of its introduction, it was primarily used for reheating stored or refrigerated food and to make popcorn. The main advantage of a microwave oven is that it can heat the food without heating the cookware directly. The food becomes hot first and then the cookware or the pan gets heated through the food in it. This phenomenon is a unique feature of the utility over the conventional ovens or stoves. In the subsequent periods it has become multipurpose equipment. Many new features were incorporated to facilitate baking, roasting, grilling and toasting apart from the usual cooking methods. The users are also benefited with the efficiency and economy that are offered by the microwave oven.

The most popular type of microwave oven is the small or portable one which can be placed on the kitchen worktop. It is known as compact size microwave oven and used for defrosting or heating food items. The bigger model is the medium sized one which can accommodate casseroles etc to cook vegetable and meat. The largest one is for cooking food in a large scale. Another model is the built in microwave oven, which can be installed only by professional technicians. The power consumption depends on the size of the oven. When the compact size requires 500 to 1000 watts of electricity, the largest size will work on wattage of 2000 or more. The special feature is the convection oven which will be equipped with a fan to circulate heat evenly so that the heating or cooking process will be faster. This type is an ideal one for small eateries or large households. Both built-in type and convection ovens are very expensive. They can be used for browning and broiling the meat in the course of cooking.

But in totality, the microwave oven is used for its efficiency and convenience and not very much for the qualitative advantages. The dieticians recommend microwave oven only for heating, browning and caramelisation. Many experts warn that nutritious values of vegetable will be lost in microwave cooking. Some reports caution that a microwave oven will divest the vitamin contents and phytonutrients of the food due to the radiation. Regular intake of food cooked in microwave oven will cause obesity and related diseases.

Like many other facilities available to those who lead a busy lifestyle, the microwave oven may also contribute to certain hazards. The best option is to use it selectively. It can be used for reheating, melting and making popcorn. Many new features are incorporated in the modern versions like facility to programme the cooking process. Timers are provided to cut off the power once the cooking is completed.

Maintenance of microwave ovens is important. The utility should be cleaned immediately after the use. The filters provided are easily removable to facilitate periodical cleaning. The turn table should be taken out and cleaned. Proper maintenance will ensure durability of the oven. The user should carefully read all the instructions in the manual issued by the manufacturers along with the product.

One of the best tasting animals of this variety of seafood has to be the Alaska Dungeness Crab. This flaky white meat has a distinctive flavor that seafood lovers just cannot get enough of. This fish is available in most parts of the United States year round, and a lot of times it comes already cooked. Usually, it is priced per pound and can be found in the seafood, meat, or freezing foods section at your local supermarket.

One of the purest ways to enjoy Alaska Dungeness Crab is to heat it up and naturally dip it in melted butter. The delicate flavor of this meat admittedly does not need much accessorizing. However, if you are in the mood for something a puny more complex, this type of crab also makes an exquisite expanding to a whole of soups, stews, bisques, salads, sautés, casseroles, and other appetizers and entrees. It can be cooked in large pieces and glazed, stuffed or grilled. They cook quickly and taste great. Boneless chicken is one of the best ingredients to all the time have on hand in your freezer or refrigerator.

Boneless Breasts and Thighs

The most favorite kinds of boneless chicken you can find in the grocery store comprise chicken breasts and thighs. These two meaty options will see you straight through many meals with tasty results. Chicken breasts are the most favorite choice for many families. They can be used in approximately any recipe, from stroganoff to appetizers. Chicken breasts are a good choice because the meat is firm, versatile and plays well with other ingredients.

Chicken thighs, however, can often be found for less cost than chicken breasts. If you are on a budget, this can make a big contrast to your grocery bill. Boneless chicken thighs can be used for most of the same recipes as chicken breasts. The meat does not tend to dry out. When you use chicken thighs in a dish that has a sauce, they seem to soak up some of the flavors of the sauce to a larger extent than breasts do. This can make a big contrast if you are making an Asian dish, for example, where you may be marinating the meat in a sauce for a short time before cooking. The marinade seems to seep into every cell in the thigh meat, making them juicy, tender and a great increasing to your dish.

Boneless Versatility

Boneless chicken can be ready in many separate ways. It can be fried, sautéed, fricasseed, grilled, baked, slow-cooked, stewed, poached, or broiled. With this versatile ingredient, you are miniature only by your imagination. Got leftover boneless chicken? Add the cooked chicken to a salad or a casserole.

Boneless chicken is also bright to the children in your family. Cut chicken breasts into strips and roll them in some breading. Slip them in the deep fryer for a few minutes and you can make homemade chicken strips or nuggets. They will taste best and be a healthier alternative to those found at the colse to fast food restaurants. Your children will thank you for giving them a fun meal, and you'll be happy they are eating something nutritious and asking for more.

Be sure to add boneless chicken to your monthly shopping list. Having some on hand can save you on a night you just are not sure what you want to cook, and it is easy to satisfy the most finicky palate in your house using this easy ingredient.

Rouille - The greatest Fondue ornamentation

When you have a fondue meal you need meat for your main courses and you want garnishes to dip the meat in after it is cooked. Favorite main courses for fondue comprise beef, steak, lobster, and fish. (Be sure to marinate these for tenderness.)

If you cook fish you should have a dish of rouille on hand. This French sauce is still very Favorite in Provence. A sample recipe for this sauce calls for one egg yolk, 1 cup of olive oil, 2 cloves of garlic, and 10 pistils of saffron. You also add salt and cayenne pepper to taste.

Meat Casseroles

If you've ever been to France, then you know that the French are very opinionated and creative when it comes to their food. That means there is more than one way to make this excellent sauce--and that each chef will insist their recipe is the best.

A slightly more involved recipe ready on Epicurious, a Favorite Internet cooking site, adds a few more ingredients. Here you use 3 tablespoons water, 3/4 cup fresh bread crumbs with the crusts removed, three garlic cloves, 1/2 teaspoon base sea salt, 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, and 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil.

Start by pouring water over the breadcrumbs in a bowl. Then use a mortar and pestle to mash the garlic and the sea salt into a paste and add the cayenne pepper. Next, add the moistened bread crumbs and continue to mash. Finally, pour the oil in a slow stream as you continue to mash and stir intensely with your pestle until all the ingredients are well combined. Note that if you do not have a mortar and pestle, an alternative way to get ready the dish is to use a large knife to mince and mash the garlic; then you exchange the paste to another dish and stir in the bread with a fork. Continue to stir in the same fashion and add the oil.

If you're having a fish-based fondue meal, you might also serve bouillabaisse. Bouillabaisse is a fish stew that comes from the French city of Marseille and rouille makes a great together with sauce for it. The stew has separate kinds of cooked fish and shellfish as well as vegetables. Herbs, garlic, orange peel, basil, bay leaf, saffron, and fennel are used to flavor it.

If you want to have your supper party as the French do, you will need to make bouillabaisse for at least 10 people. The more citizen sharing the meal, the more collection of fish you need for the dish. Then, the final stock will be even better.

Also, if you have a large get together you can make your fondue party potluck. Your friends can bring other sauces to add to the meat once it's cooked. Your guests can also bring separate types of meat, although it may be easier for you to make the main courses and ask your guests to bring items to dip in the chocolate for dessert. Favorite treats comprise fresh fruit such as raspberries and strawberries. Just make sure you have enough fondue sets and fondue forks so that everybody can enjoy the delicacies.

Growing and Preparing Common Garden Chives

Known as common garden chives, Allium schoenoprasum, can be grown indoors and out.  Chives are rich in vitamins A and C, potassium, and calcium.  They are grown for the flavour of their leaves, which is reminiscent of onion, although much milder.  Both the stems and light purple flowers are used in cooking and the snipped leaves are an addition to many dishes.  Chives lose their flavour with long cooking so it is best to add them to dishes at the last minute.  For chopping stems, a pair of scissors is the best tool.
Chives can be frozen or dried.  They are less flavourful when dried rather that frozen, so they are best used when fresh and snipped, or snipped and frozen.  In both cases sort them carefully, removing any yellowing leaves and shoots, and keep only the plump green ones.  It is possible to place chives in non-iodized salt, keep them there for several weeks, remove the leaves, and then bottle the 'chive salt' for use in flavouring.
Chives are a perennial in the garden and grow approximately 12 inches (30 cm) tall.  They are extremely easy to grow, are drought tolerant, rarely suffer from disease or pest problems, and don't require fertilizer.  Cultivation requirements for growing chives: full sun, will tolerate light shade; grow best in well-drained, organic, fertile soil; keep soil moist - use mulch, and water during periods of drought.  Chives tend to get overcrowded so dig and divide every three to four years.
Chives are easily grown from seed or can be brought indoors at the end of the growing season.  If you are bringing chives indoors, divide a clump, and pot up in good houseplant soil.  Leave your chive plant outdoors for a month or so after the first frost to provide a short period of dormancy.  Bring them indoors and provide the requirements needed for them to start growing again.  To harvest, snip leaves 2 inches (5cm) from the base of the plant.  Cut flower stalks off at the soil line once they have finished blooming.  This prevents the plant form forming seed and keeps it more productive.
Chives require at least five to eight hours of sunlight a day.  Grow them on a southern or eastern exposure to the light.  If you are growing them on a windowsill, turn regularly to ensure every side receives light.  If you are unable to provide this amount of light, they also grow well under fluorescent lights.  Hang lights 6 inches above the plants and leave lights on for 14 hours per day.
In the garden, plant chives with carrots.  They are good companion plantings for tomatoes and fruit trees.  Chives or garlic planted between rows of peas or lettuce control pashas and are reported to control the incidence of aphids when planted between roses.  In the kitchen, use chives in omelets, scrambled eggs, casseroles, rice, dips, gravies, butter, meat, and seafood. Chives can be added to soft cheese, salads, sandwiches, sour cream, vinegar, and bake potatoes.  Chive blossoms can be used for garnishing and are particularly attractive in salads.  Chive stems can be used for tying up little bundles of vegetables for appetizers.

Ground beef casserole recipes are popular. Why? It's because they're easy to make, usually only dirty one casserole dish, are tasty, filling, and nutritious. Some can even be made in a crock pot. That's convenient!

Ground beef casserole recipes are some of the best ways of feeding your family if you have a busy life. Casseroles make an elegant presentation when paired with raw vegetable recipes in the same meal. And that's the underground to production these types of recipes into good healthy foods for your loved ones.

Meat Casseroles

Many of the ground beef casserole recipes combine on being good cheap food to feed a hungry family as inexpensively as possible. It's a noble idea but the reality of the situation is that you must transform these recipes using inexpensive ingredients into good condition foods. Otherwise, you will be feeding your loved ones foods that are not good for them. That's not a good idea.

You do not want to feed things to your family that will be detrimental to them. So you will use the tenets of the Mediterranean diet to make your ground beef casserole recipes into inexpensive healthy recipes you can be proud to serve. Begin your ground beef casserole recipes by using good meats. They may cost more but they are worth it.

Unlike other dishes where you can drain the liquid fat off your ground beef after cooking, many one-dish casseroles will soak up the fat. This unwanted and unhealthy fat may also pool in the lowest of the casserole dish production your food less palatable. If at all possible, pre-cook your beef, drain the fat, and discard it.

Eating beef fat is not good for you so use lean ground meat. The fat article is usually found on packages of ground beef. Be sure to read this and use the leanest meat you can afford.

Healthy chili recipes can also benefit from using leaner grinds of meat. Even when using lean meat, you should drain and discard as much of the fat as possible. This is not only healthier but will help you avoid moving unwanted and unnecessary calories. That's a good thing.

A great aggregate for a mouthwatering casserole combines good meats and good vegetables with a bit of whole grain corn tortilla chips. When buying tortilla chips make sure you read the package to assure it contains whole grain corn. Most tortilla chips are made from whole grain corn, which is a healthier selection than degerminated corn.

The other aspect of tortilla chips you may want to address is the number of salt they have on them. This is assuredly remedied by placing the tortilla chips into a brown paper grocery bag, rolling the top down a few turns, then slowly shaking the bag back and forth for two minutes.

This causes the excess salt to fall from the chips production them a healthier food choice. Be sure you pick the chips out of the grocery bag and leave the salt in the bottom. Do not pour the chips out of the bag because the salt will slide out with the chips.

It is Ok that most of the ingredients in your casserole will be canned and not fresh, raw vegetables. When it is cooking all the raw food enzymes would be destroyed so it is not as leading to be involved about preserving these vital nutrients.

That is why it is a smart idea to serve a raw vegetable plate as an appetizer while the casserole is cooking. It will keep your kids and/or guests out of your hair while you are establishment the meal. The raw vegetables will furnish the raw food enzymes they need.

Serve a salad with many different colored vegetables as a side to the casserole. It is leading to comprise a raw vegetable dietary component to any cooked meal. Ground beef casserole recipes are great. Your family and guests will love them. The best reasons to make them usually is that ground beef casserole recipes are easy to make, tasty, and nutritious if you use the proper ingredients.

making Crockpot Lasagna

When I tell citizen I make lasagna in my crockpot, they always look at me and ask if I'm sure. They can't believe that their crockpot can be used to make this extraordinary dish.

This in effect began as an experiment and has since become a family favorite.

Meat Casseroles

I begin with ground turkey. The packages of turkey are just over a pound. I brown the meat with chopped onion. If you like other seasonings with the meat, this is the time to add them in. Once the meat is brown I add in one jar of Prego sauce (don't throw away the jar). You can use any brand of sauce or even make your own.

Once the meat is done, it's time to generate the lasagna casserole. I spoon a bit of the meat sauce on the bottom of the crockpot. I then use quarterly lasagna noodles. Do not buy the type that are no boil. You want quarterly lasagna noodles. I generously coat the noodles with ricotta cheese, then break to fit the crockpot. I cover the bottom of the crockpot, over the sauce with the noodles. Place the noodles cheese side up.

I chop up one head of cauliflower and one head of broccoli. I dice a few zucchini. I also wash half a bag of spinach leaves. I put a compassionate layer of the mixed vegetables on top of the noodles. I top this with Italian blend cheese. Just generously sprinkle on top of the vegetables.

Repeat layers until the crockpot is full. My crockpot is smaller, so I only have two layers of vegetables. End your layering with ricotta covered noodles on top.

Remember that empty jar you saved after browning the meat. Put a quarter cup of water in the jar and shake to generate a very runny tomato sauce. Just before plugging in the crockpot, pour the water over the top of the top of casserole.

Cook on high for four hours. After four hours, I took off the lid and pushed the top noodles down to Ant. Eject a bit of the liquid. I turned it down to low and cooked one more hour.

We are not a mushroom eating family. If your family likes mushrooms, try adding those in, either instead of one of the other vegetables or in increasing to the others.

My family enjoys the taste of the Italian blend cheese. I know others prefer a Parmesan cheese. Try Italian blend in the casserole and then shredded Parmesan on the top.

You can also try this formula with an Alfredo sauce instead of a tomato sauce. As I mentioned, the first time I made this dish, it was an experiment. So try your own experimenting to find the right compound of ingredients for your family.

As long as your foods are properly ready and stored prior to freezing, and you agree foods that are amenable to freezing, you should have no problems. This straightforward tip can unmistakably save you time and money for just a few minutes of preparation. Enjoy!
