Once a Month Cooking - Hamburger Pasta Casseroles Freezer Meals

When it comes to cooking and baking, I love experimenting with once a month cooking. This type of cooking is when you spend a day or two making and baking up several meals for your family and then freezing them for future use.

This recipe will make 3 large casseroles that will each feed 8 people. They will keep in the freezer for up to 6 months. You will need three 9 x 13" rectangular foil baking pans, that I like to pick up at our local dollar store or discount department store. After freezing, thaw the casserole in your refrigerator for 6-8 hours and then reheat in the oven for 20 minutes before serving.

Hamburger Pasta Casserole

4 lbs. lean ground beef

1 lb. thin sausage links, sliced into bite-sized pieces

2 cups onions, finely chopped

2 cups celery, finely chopped

1 1/4 cup green pepper, finely chopped

16-18 ounces pasta noodles

3 cans tomato soup

4 1/4 cups shredded American Cheese

12 ounce bottle chili sauce

1/4 cup pimento, chopped

2 teaspoons table salt

2 1/2 teaspoons chili powder

1 teaspoon black pepper

2 cups water

4 1/2 cups bread crumbs

1/4 cup butter, melted (not margarine)

In a very large frying pan, cook the lean ground beef, sausage links, onion, celery and green pepper until the ground beef is brown and no longer pink. Drain off fat. Cook your desired pasta noodles according to box directions, drain water and set aside. In a large stock pot, add your cooked pasta noodles and meat mixture. Stir in the tomato soup, cheese, chili sauce, chili powder, chopped pimento, salt, pepper and water.

Split the mixture up into 3 equal portions. Place mixture into each of your baking pans. In a small bowl, combine the bread crumbs with melted butter. Sprinkle seasoned bread crumbs on top of the casserole mixture.

Bake casseroles in a 350 degree oven for 30-45 minutes. Let completely cool before wrapping and freezing.

Dessert Casseroles

Casseroles have been with us throughout written history. Casserole-like dishes have appeared in ancient Greece and Rome. The French continued the casserole tradition and by the eighteenth century the English were making casseroles. The tradition continues today in America. So what exactly is a casserole? A casserole is a combination of ingredients combined and slow cooked together to form a unique dish with a medley of flavors. Historically, casseroles have been a main dish or a frugal way to make good use of leftovers. Most casserole ingredients have included meats, vegetables, and starches.

Contemporary trends being set by savvy kitchen cooks now include more than the dinner version of casseroles. Indeed, casseroles have branched out to include dessert. The same principles that have always applied to the dinner casserole apply to dessert casseroles. Casseroles may use a variety of ingredients in small quantities. They are prepared and cooked in the same container or pan. They are a great way to use leftovers. And finally, they can be plain fun to create.

The innovative cook can create a wide range of scrumptious sweet dishes from bits and pieces of sweet confectioneries, fruits, nuts, soft cheeses, jams, and syrups.

Dessert casserole ingredients are mixed together then baked in a single pan such as dump cakes. Cake mix is literally dumped into the pan along with any combination of fruits or puddings. The concoction is then baked together to a sweet perfection. Dump cakes can be a hodge-podge of what is available in the refrigerator, or carefully planned with a specific cake flavor and complimentary fruit or pudding.

Cheese blintz casseroles are another favorite. Cheese blintz casseroles are by far easier to prepare than individual cheese blintz. Any fresh fruit topping or sauce can be used to create a wonderful variety of cheese blintz casseroles including cherries, strawberries, and raspberries.

Dessert casseroles can also be a fun activity to share with the kids. Set out a variety of ingredients and let the kids create new combinations from their favorite dessert flavors. The possible combinations of fruits, nuts, puddings, and cakes can be fun to explore.

Dessert casseroles, just like their dinner counterparts, are a great addition to any potluck. The simplicity of dessert casseroles save on time in both preparation and clean up. And the unique combination of different ingredients blending together in the oven often produces new complimentary flavors. Drizzle a little sauce over the top a baked dessert casserole and it turns into a masterpiece.

Casseroles are true comfort food. We have put together a collection of delicious casserole recipes that will satisfy the hearty appetite; and that can be served for holidays, special occasions and everyday dining. morning meal and Brunch Casseroles

Breakfast and brunch casseroles are a convenient, time-saving, and cost-effective way to feed a crowd. Many of the breakfast and brunch casseroles can be ready up to twelve hours ahead of time and can be simply settled in the oven for about an hour to bake. This is the exquisite dish if you want to host a breakfast or brunch. It is an easy way to feed guests, since you can interact with them instead of working hard in the kitchen. It is also a great family tradition; you can serve these casseroles every weekend. breakfast and brunch casseroles are also a nice treat to bring into the office. Co-workers will line up for a hot breakfast versus the usual bagel or doughnut offerings from others.

For those with a busy schedule, breakfast casseroles take just a few minutes to prepare. The lowest layer is typically bread or potatoes, although there are variations on this. The middle layer can be made up of a breakfast meat of your choosing such as bacon, sausage, or ham. This layer is ordinarily combined with an egg aggregate and vegetables. The casserole can then be topped off with cheese. These layers back together in the oven, becoming a fluffy and yummy "egg pie."

Meat Casseroles

Ingredients can be added or omitted depending on your taste; some habitancy skip the meat and load up on the veggies instead. The veggies used can be frosty or fresh, although many cooks swear by chopping fresh onions for a zesty taste. Try featuring veggies that are in season as the main ingredient, like in a zucchini casserole.

Recipes for sweet breakfast and brunch casseroles pair well with a original casserole for a larger meal. For example, a sweet casserole can be made by combining French toast, blueberries, and pecans. A sweet casserole is often topped with syrup or whipped cream.

The recipes can admittedly be doubled or tripled depending on how big of a crowd you need to feed. While these dishes are ordinarily served at breakfast or brunch, they can make a fun dinner. You can also use these recipes to originate a unique date night. These are exquisite treats for holidays too. Whatever the occasion, you are sure to find beloved recipes that can be used for years to come.

Crock Pot Casseroles are the Quintessential One Dish Meal

I'm a fan of casseroles - meat, vegetables, and carbohydrates all in one dish. But when you categorically take a look, you perceive as you're cooking that casseroles are truly Not a one dish meal. You have a pot to cook the noodles, a strainer to drain them, a pan to brown the meat, a pot to heat the cream base and combine everything in, and a baking dish to bake it in. That doesn't seem like one dish; it seems more like five.

Then I realized there's categorically no conjecture why you couldn't make casseroles a one dish meal by production them in your crock pot. Yet, to be fair, it's not one dish. You do have to brown the meat before adding it to your crock pot, so you use two dishes. Still, two is good than five when it comes to dishwashing.

Meat Casseroles

Following is a formula reference - merely suggestions in how to put together a crock pot casserole. Add or delete meats, vegetables, experiment with seasonings, and originate your own quintessential one dish meal.

Crock Pot Casseroles

1 pound ground meat (beef, chicken, turkey)

1 can cream based soup

1 ½ cup water

1 cup celery, chopped

2 cloves minced garlic

1 onion, chopped

16 oz icy vegetables

8 oz cream cheese or sour cream

½ tsp black pepper

1 tsp each season salt and dry mustard

4-5 cups noodles (any strong kind such as penne, ziti, egg noodles, macaroni)
