classic Crockpot Casserole Recipes

Casseroles have to be the most popular crockpot recipes of all time and a lot of people who own crockpots have probably only made casseroles in them. There are a lot of dissimilar recipes for casserole dishes, of course, and you might like to use beef, chicken or pork. These recipes can also range from mild to very spicy.

The word "casserole" de facto refers to the typical glass dish used in the oven to make these recipes but obviously this is not the case when you make this dish in a slow cooker. Slow cooking brings out the overwhelming flavors of every singular ingredient so it is small wonder that soups, stews and casseroles do so well in the crockpot.

Tasty Casserole Ingredients

Popular vegetables for recipes like these include mushrooms, onions, garlic, broccoli, cabbage, zucchini, carrot, sweet potato and more. Some casseroles feature rice or potatoes. You can use beef, veal, pork, chicken or even fish to make delicious stew-type recipes.

Anything which cooks nicely in low, moist heat will do well in a slow cooker. Superior recipes for casseroles and stews are ordinarily even good when you make them in a crockpot than when you bake them in the oven on a low temperature or when you cook them over a low flame on the stove. This is partly because a crockpot relies on steam and moisture for method success, and a slow cooker lid is very tight-fitting, stopping any moisture or steam from escaping.

Recipe for Easy Beef Casserole with Red Wine

Beef casserole is such an easy meal to make in the slow cooker and it is one of the most Superior crockpot recipes of all time. You can use ground beef to make crock pot beef stews or casseroles or stewing beef. Tough beef tenderizes when you slow cook it so you can use a cheap cut of beef if you want to, and rest assured that it will come out succulent and juicy.

This method has macaroni in it and it is best to make the macaroni separately and add it to the crockpot fifteen minutes before the end of the cooking time. You can cook pasta in the slow cooker but it is just simpler to cook it on the stove and then couple everything. This method serves three or four people.

What you will need:

1 lb ground beef 1/4 cup flour 2 tablespoons red wine 2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules 1 chopped onion 1 teaspoon salt 6 oz macaroni 1 cup sour cream 4 oz canned mushrooms 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1 1/4 cups hot water

How to make it:

Brown the onion and ground beef in a skillet, and then drain off the fat. Exchange it to the slow cooker. Stir in the garlic powder, salt, flour and Worcestershire sauce. Add the wine, bouillon granules and wine and stir well.

Cover the crock pot and cook the beef casserole for two and a half hours on low. Cook the macaroni and add it to the casserole with the sour cream and mushrooms. Cook on high for fifteen minutes and serve.

Classic Casseroles: A Satisfying Meal Choice

Nothing says "comfort food" quite like a homemade classic casserole served steaming hot from the oven. On days when the idea of a salad or a quick grilled meat just doesn't seem inspiring, a deep-dish casserole is a hearty and tasty alternative. The aroma itself, filling the kitchen as it slowly bakes in the oven, evokes feelings and memories of why home cooking is so nurturing for many people.

What exactly is a casserole? This French word simply means "saucepan." Thus, a traditional casserole consists of ingredients combined together in a deep dish (the casserole dish). A casserole then bakes slowly in the oven and is served hot in its baking dish, thus retaining the juices and pan flavorings for optimal taste.

Meat Casseroles

The ingredients of a classic casserole can vary widely from region to region, but the basic idea is the same everywhere. Meal-in-a-dish casseroles start with a meat or a fish choice. This can be freshly chosen for the dish; however, a casserole is also a much-loved opportunity to use up leftovers. Next comes vegetables, seasonings, and, often, a starch such as pasta, rice or flour. Many casseroles also use added liquid for flavor and consistency. Some typical examples of added liquid are wine, stock, milk, and condensed soup. Finally, there may be a bread or cheese topping to add a pleasantly flavored crunchy texture.

Some classic casseroles are side dishes and may not include meat or added vegetables. Favorites of this variety are scalloped potatoes and classic green bean casserole, both baked in the oven and served in their dish alongside the main course of a meal.

Some favorite classics, such as tuna and noodle casserole, are staples of American cooking from 1950s. During the post-war era, casseroles of all kinds could be found on the dinner table, as well as at church suppers and family potlucks in every state. Other popular casseroles originate from Europe and beyond. One only has to think of Italian lasagna, ratatouille or eggplant parmesan, Greek moussaka, French cassoulet, or traditional English shepherds' pie to realize how universal the method of casserole cooking has been and continues to be.

With so many choices, there is a classic casserole to suit every taste and budget. The aroma, presentation and intense flavors are sure to please everyone at the table as they enjoy this satisfying home-cooked meal.
